The Cycles Approach - Online Workshop
About Course:
Sunflowers Training presents an Applied Workshop on the Cycles Approach for the Treatment of Phonological Disorders in Children. This training workshop provides a practical introduction to the Cycles Approach for treating phonological disorders in children, with a particular focus on children with reduced speech intelligibility and multiple phonological error patterns. The workshop aims to equip participants with a practical framework for developing a structured intervention plan that targets phonological patterns in successive cycles, rather than focusing on individual speech sounds in isolation from the overall speech system.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain the core principles of the Cycles Approach and the therapeutic rationale underlying its use in the treatment of severe phonological disorders.
- Differentiate between targeting individual speech sounds and targeting phonological patterns, and select the most appropriate intervention approach based on a child's phonological profile and speech intelligibility.
- Analyze a speech sample from a child with a phonological disorder and identify priority phonological patterns for intervention.
- Develop an initial treatment cycle by selecting target patterns, choosing appropriate speech sounds, and organizing goals across multiple therapy sessions.
- Design a complete therapy session using the Cycles Approach.
- Discuss ways to adapt the Cycles Approach across different contexts, including Arabic-speaking populations, bilingual children, and school- or clinic-based settings, according to the clinician's work environment.
